EMPLOYEES TO SUPPORT LOCAL CHARITY Employees at Wolverhampton based DJR Marketing Solutions have selected the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Project in St John’s Square, Wolverhampton as its company charity. DJR Marketing, located in Shaw Park Business Village in Wolverhampton, was set up in 2002 providing bespoke telemarketing campaigns to SMEs and multi-national companies across the UK. The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Project was set up in 1990 to improve knowledge and health service provision for the black and ethnic minority communities in Wolverhampton. Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia are hereditary blood conditions and the disorders are a form of anaemia that require specialist care and management. Those most at risk of Sickle Cell disorders are people who are of African, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South-east Asian origin. Daniel Reilly, Managing Director of DJR Marketing explains: “Over the years we’ve raised money for a number of charities and this year staff voted to raise awareness of Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia and we’re planning a number of fundraising events during the year.” People with Sickle Cell disorders can suffer with severe pain and life-threatening infections. Those with Thalassaemia disorders are severely anaemic and may need blood transfusions every four weeks. It is therefore important that those planning to have a family get a free test via their GP to see if they or their partners are carriers of these conditions as their child could be affected also.
